Once free of the constraints and responsibilities of work, we will also be free of the identity, direction, purpose and social interaction work provides. With one quarter of life ahead, discovering ways to replace these needs is as important to retirement success as financial security.
After years of conforming to schedules and structures imposed upon us, it is time to set our own goals and priorities and realize our true retirement wishes.
If you put aside your best skills and deepest interests to fulfill obligations, reclaim them. If there is something you always wanted to do but never had time for, do it now. If you’ve never found your true passions, what are you waiting for? Everyone has talent. Some discover it sooner than others. If you haven’t uncovered yours yet, it is time you did.
Joseph Campbell, the great teacher of mythology believed, if we “follow our bliss,” or search within ourselves for the burning need we wish to fulfill, we will lead a truly authentic life. “If you follow your bliss doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.”
Concentrate on what brings you joy and discover the best in yourself.
What is your bliss?
